Internships, Jobs & Programs

At MCHS we believe scholars should get to experience the world to get to know it better. We help members of our community get connected to a wide variety of opportunities to get a better sense of what they like and don’t like, their strengths and areas of improvement…

Our major partnerships which lead to internships or jobs include:

The New Jewish Home:
SkillSpring is a three year program which begins in 10th grade, in which participants travel to the nearby nursing home to interact with residents, learn about the workings of a nursing home facility, gain college support, and in the summer before 12th grade have the opportunity to take Certified Nursing Assistant classes and the related exam. We have partnered with the New Jewish Home since 2006, and one of our alumni helps to run the program!

Work Learn Grow and Career Ready SYEP
Scholars at MCHS have the opportunity to receive a guaranteed Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) spot, rather than entering the citywide lottery. Through SYEP teenagers get the chance to gain work experience in the summer months, and MCHS students have the chance to earn elective credit as well! Work Learn Grow is the new version of what used to be called “Winter Youth” and offers participants the chance to earn college credit as well as paid work experience. For many years, Marie Curie HS students have participated in both programs through our partnership with the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center.

Futures & Options: Workplace Challenge and Internships
One feature of the FutureReady program is the work based learning opportunities participating scholars receive. Workplace Challenge allows juniors and seniors the chance to solve an issue that the healthcare industry faces, via a group project after school, and pays them with a stipend. Internships through Futures & Options are paid, healthcare related, and provide key experiences for future medical professionals. Internships are paid on an hourly basis.

Committee for Hispanic Children and Families:
Opening Doors to the Future is a career readiness program which provides job training and skills to prepare for college. This paid program connects students to positions in hospitals, offices of elected officials, the business world, and more.

Manne Institute/Bronx ????RP?
MCHS scholars can conduct scientific research at the Stanley Manne Research Institute.

Training Opportunities Program (TOP)
Students with disabilities have the opportunity to apply for a paid position within the school.

*MANY* additional opportunities are made available to MCHS students, related to healthcare, activism, history, the environment, human services, and much more.
